ANNUAL CME ON CONSULTATION LIAISON PSYCHIATRY

A Continuous Medical Education (Annual Mid-Term CME) program on “Challenges in Consultation Liaison Psychiatry” was held on Sunday at Dr. S.S. Tantia Medical College Hospital and Research Center, organized by the Sri Ganganagar Society for Rural Mental Health.
The event was inaugurated by District Collector Dr. Amit Yadav, who emphasized continuous progress and highlighted Tantia University as an example. He noted that such programs benefit professionals in mental health care.
Key organizers included Director and Head of Psychiatry Dr. Vishu Tantia, Vice Chairperson Dr. Mohit Tantia, Executive Director Dr. K.S. Sukhdev, Dean Dr. Vijay K. Sehgal, and Medical Superintendent Dr. H.S. Bindra. The organizing team was led by Chairperson Dr. Roop Sidana, Co-Chairperson Dr. Rajiv Agrawal, Secretary Dr. Ankush Sharma, Joint Secretary Dr. Aninda Sidana, and Treasurer Dr. Vikas Dhingra.
Dr. Krishna Soni from the Association for Psychological Science, Washington DC, explained that mental illness is common among patients with serious physical diseases and highlighted the role of psychosomatic therapists in treating mind-body connections. Former Professor Dr. Rupesh Chaudhary from Ludhiana spoke about managing depression in medically ill patients, stressing a comprehensive approach.
The conference included sessions chaired by several experts such as Dr. Ajit Awasthi and others, covering topics like understanding patients in consultation liaison psychiatry, suicide and self-harm cases, ethical and legal issues, mental health during ICU stay, substance use disorders, neurological challenges, pregnancy and postpartum issues, and child-related mental health challenges. Lectures were delivered by experts including Dr. Hitesh Khurana, Dr. Purushottam, Dr. Nimesh Desai, Dr. Gurvinder Pal Singh, Dr. Sandeep Grover, Dr. Shiv Gautam, Dr. Raghav Shah, Dr. L.D. Bhardwaj, Dr. Sahaj Agrawal, Dr. Gulbahar Sidhu, Dr. P.L. Ohri, Dr. Gunjan Solanki, and Dr. Pushpendra Mago.
The scientific committee included Dr. Ashok Arora, Dr. Prem Prakash Agrawal, Dr. V.D. Singh, Dr. Brijesh Mahawar, Dr. Sandeep Sharma, Dr. Vikram Jain, Dr. Amit Bhadu, Dr. Sahil Jindal, and Dr. Garvit Agrawal. Organizing members included Dr. Sandeep Garg, Dr. Jitendra Nagpal, Dr. Meghal Gulati, Dr. Neha Jain, Dr. Manoj Soni, and Dr. Hemant Saharan. The governing body members of the Society for Rural Mental Health, including Patron Dr. Rajiv Gupta, President Dr. Ashok Gupta, Secretary Dr. Vinay Kumar, and Treasurer Dr. Amit Kumar Soni, were also present.
